Around the world, different regions have preferred different karatages. Asian, Far & Middle Eastern countries selected 22K as their karatage of choice while many European countries designated 18K as their gold jewelry standard. In the US, however, we chose 10K as our minimum gold jewelry standard with 14K most commonly sold. Thus, as this chart illustrates, we have become accustomed to the low purity and dullness of 14K jewelry containing only 58% gold!
